Guide Profile:
I was born in Windhoek, Namibia, and grew up on an extensive farm to the West of Windhoek. My father Attila Port was also assisting scientist with their evolution studies. A remarkable scantiest was Dr Bob Brain from the then Transvaal Museum and the author of the Hunter or the Hunted. Furthermore I was influenced by the research done on the San people in Namibia and Botswana by Lawrence and Lorna Marshall (1951 to 1960’s). The experiences told to me by Goetz Dieter Plage (a Cameraman in Africa) shaped the idea of telling stories by means of photography. So I therefore have a good idea to create excellent photographic opportunities for the tourists coupled to a story at the site.
I spend my working life in the SA Air Force as an operational helicopter and air transport pilot/flight instructor. The last years I was involved in aircraft projects working with diverse cultures and people. At times I was tasked to be the accompanying officer for international visit groups. At the end of each of these tours I was told that I am an excellent guide, that the clients enjoyed my relaxed and knowledgeable company. It is therefore to all the above influences that I became a national Tour Guide on retiring from the SA Air Force.
I am convinced that I will be able to contribute in a very positive way to your tour company, being mindful that it is the guide, similar to a pilot that is the key to the success of any mission – or tour in this case. I am looking forward to guide your clients.
Michael is a Peer Supporter for MAYDAY South Africa – this is to assist persons requiring confidential support during crisis situations by example defusing and debriefing – key is the confidentiality – and this skill is also most valuable to assist guests on tour to resolve crisis situations during the tour –
Michael is a warbird pilot at the South African Air Force Museum – flying the Alouette 3 helicopter – as planned by the SAAF Museum.
