HOSPITALITY RECEPTION
The CATHSSETA accredited Further Education and Training Certificate: Hospitality Reception (SAQA ID 64469) is designed for individuals working in or aspiring to join front office operations within the accommodation industry. This qualification integrates key aspects of guest relations, administration, and supervision, ensuring professional and efficient front-line service in environments ranging from small guesthouses to large hotels. Learners develop strong communication, customer care, and organisational skills while gaining practical experience in guest check-in and check-out procedures, reservation management, payment processing, and concierge services. The qualification also emphasises cultural awareness, teamwork, safety, and self-development, preparing learners to handle a variety of front office responsibilities with confidence and professionalism. Furthermore, it provides a pathway to the Accommodation Services Diploma and creates articulation opportunities within the broader Hospitality, Travel, and Tourism industries.
COURSE CONTENT
Theory:
- Workplace management (planning, organising, and monitoring).
- Provide customer information and book external services.
- Deal with the arrival of customers.
- Prepare customer accounts and deal with departures.
- Co-ordinate the greeting and assisting of guests on arrival and departure.
- Maintain the front office service.
- Maintain the portering / concierge service.
- Display cultural awareness in dealing with customers & colleagues.
- Process incoming and outgoing telephone calls.
- Working with cash and equivalents.
- Mathematics and literacy.
- Maintain customer satisfaction.
- Maintain the receipt, storage and issue of goods.

COURSE STRUCTURE
Duration: 8 to 12 months.
Certification: Drum Beat Academy and CATHSSETA Certificate.
Entrance Requirements:
- Martic Certificate or NQF Level 4 equivalent.
- Learners should have a good comprehension of English.
- Reading and writing skills are required.
Assessment:
- Practical assessment on all aspects of front office operations in a lodge, hotel or guesthouse.
- Questionnaires on theory.
- Assignments and tasks on workplace implementation.
